My Blog is Ten Years Old

my blog is ten years old

I just noticed that my blog is ten years old this month. It’s been a lot of fun and effort, but where did all the time go?

Back in August 2015, I wrote my first post on my first blog. I described the main studio at radio station CJOB in Winnipeg, shown above. That’s me, fifty years younger than today, with lots of 1970’s style hair!

A few years after I retired, I started Making It Up as a creative outlet—a space where I could document my passions, projects, and insights. It’s hard to believe a decade has passed since I first began this journey, and I’m filled with gratitude and pride for what we’ve built together.

Over the years, this blog has become a collection of stories, a digital record of my adventures in the world of ham radio, electronics, and beyond. We’ve explored everything from building homebrew receivers and tackling complex electronics projects to discussing the nuances of software-defined radio.

Your comments and our conversations have enriched every post, turning this space into a vibrant community.

Beyond the technical pursuits, this blog has also been a place for personal reflection. I’ve shared insights from my life, including the deeply personal journey of caring for my dear wife, Hilda, after her stroke. Sharing those moments with you has been an important part of the last decade, and I appreciate the support and understanding you’ve shown.

My Blog is Ten Years Old – Looking Back

The website primarily features blog content focused on radio hobbies, particularly ham radio, as well as related maker and DIY electronics topics. The articles discuss technical projects, personal reflections on technology, and guidance for amateur radio enthusiasts, such as designing and 3D-printing antenna braces, reviewing ARRL handbooks, exploring Arduino projects, and sharing insights into the evolving world of home entertainment and radio broadcasting. Much of the writing includes a mix of project walkthroughs, commentary on changes in technology, and community discussions about the ham radio hobby.

As I get older and have different responsibilities, I have been slowing down a bit. But, I hope to continue digging into software defined radio, diversity reception and wideband loop antennas for a few more years, at least.
