Revised Power Distribution Terminals

power distribution terminals

Time to update my low current 12 VDC power distribution terminals for many useful accessories in the radio room.

Some years ago, I got rid of my power cubes and built a low current power distribution system running off a 12V linear power supply. My intention was to reduce switch mode power supply noise in the shack. It did.

My original system used 3D printed mounts, as shown here.

Recently I noticed some new terminal strips on Amazon, the Glarks terminal block set. These are available in various sizes, complete with barrier strips and fork connectors. So I ordered a bundle with five ten-position barrier strips and accessories. Only cost CDN$19.

Above, you can see the setup to replace four SMPS cubes. I make extensive use of the DC power connector adaptors with screw terminals for the wiring. My DIY system will supply power to my coaxial relay switches, ANC-4 noise canceller and NCC-1 phasing box

I have screwed the terminal blocks into a small piece of plywood, which I will fasten to the operating desk with some Velcro tabs. At the left side, you can see the connection to the linear power supply.

Power Distribution Terminals – Linear Power Supply

You may have noticed that it’s getting harder to find low cost, noise free linear power supplies. Almost everyone has gone to switched-mode power cubes. But these are still available.

My current 12V linear power supplies (i.e. transformer based) are more than 40 years old. One of them has been getting flaky, so I went shopping for a replacement.

On Amazon, I came up with the Pyramid PS7KX for CDN$86. It seems to get decent reviews, and should supply five amps continuous, which is double what my load requires. Hopefully it is low noise where RFI is concerned. We will see when it arrives shortly.

Thanks for this! I have an SSB homebrew strewn about my desk and need to get a neater solution for power distribution. This might be the ticket.
